Woman thanks surgeon who reset her jaw after childhood bike crash left it 'skewed'

A woman who broke her jaw in a childhood cycling accident today told how a surgeon enabled her to look in the mirror without crying for the first time in two decades. Gina Katsaitis, 36, underwent two operations at Northwick Park hospital in Harrow to correct the defect that caused her face to become “skewed” by the time she was a teenager.  Ms Katsaitis, an accountant from Twickenham, celebrated her new appearance and restored self-esteem by marrying fiancé Dimitri, 38, in January. In a letter to maxillofacial surgeon Manolis Heliotis, she wrote: “Words will never be able to express my thanks and gratitude for all you have done for me. After 20 years, I see myself in the mirror with no tears streaming down my face.”
