Omar Faiz is a Consultant Surgeon at St Marks Hospital & Academic Institute and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College. His principal areas of clinical interest are the surgical management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), colorectal and hereditary cancer syndromes, coloplastic surgery and proctological surgery.
Omar is Director of Research at St Mark's hospital. He has wide research interests and supervises PhD research fellows at Imperial College. He has published approximately 190 peer-reviewed publications on colorectal cancer epidemiology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, surgical outcome and surgical performance. He has authored over one-hundred-and-seventy-five peer-reviewed scientific publications, thirteen book chapters and three medical text books.
Omar holds various leadership positions at a national and international level. He is the current Chairman of the Association of Coloproctologists of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) Inflammatory Bowel Disease subcommittee and also chairs the Ileal Pouch Registry for the ACPGBI. He is a past advisor to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). He is also Chair of the National Ileal Pouch Registry. In addition, he chairs the surgery group within the Global Comparators (GC) partnership - an international surgical benchmarking group and is an Associate Editor for the journal Colorectal Disease.
