Eye bag removal and eye lid surgery

With age the skin loses its elasticity and our muscles tend to slacken. As a result it is common to develop lower eye bags and hooding of the upper eyelid which can make us look tired and older, adding years to the whole face.  An Eye Bag Removal procedure/Eyelid Surgery can effectively address this problem, removing loose skin, surplus fatty tissue and relaxed muscle in the eyelids to produce a more youthful appearance.

The Procedure

The upper and lower eye lids may be operated on either separately or together.  This operation can be carried out as a daycase or may involve an overnight stay in hospital.  When surgery is carried out on the lower eyelids, a general anaesthetic is required.  For upper eyelid surgery, a local anaesthetic is required.

There will be some scarring along the margin of the lower lash and socket line of the upper lid which will normally fade quickly and leave faint white lines.  There will also be some swelling and bruising during the recovery period.  Stitches are normally removed three to five days after surgery and most people return to work seven days after their procedure.
